OVERVIEW This course is a key stage in a climber’s development, teaching them to become an independent top rope climber and boulderer. Upon completion of the course, participants will have mastered the basics of climbing on an artificial climbing structure and will be able to climb and boulder safely and, if appropriate, independently. Some climbing centres may allow minors of a suitable age who have achieved this level to climb independently at their centre (with parental consent) or under some form of supervision. MINIMUM AGE Ages 7+ HOURS Minimum hours of coaching required: 12. Coaching hours on our Courses: 12 (4x 3-hour sessions). RATIO The maximum group size for this course is 8 Participants. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 2.1 Demonstrates connecting self and others with rethreaded figure of 8 and stopper knot consistently into both a one-piece and two-piece harness 2.2 Consistently performs pre-climb checks of self and others 2.3 Belays and lowers skilfully with a friction device, including a ground anchor if required 2.4 Holds a simple top rope fall skilfully 2.5 Communicates well with climbing partner 2.6 Understands sport grades and selects appropriate routes 2.7 Demonstrates safe and effective use of a bouldering or traversing wall 2.8 Completes 25 coach-selected climbs of any grade, and logs them 2.9 Completes 25 belays, and logs them 2.10 Climbs consistently well and showing good technique INCLUDED IN THE PRICE Climbing Wall Entry Equipment Hire (Shoes, Harness, Helmet & Belay Plate) NICAS Level 1 & 2 Logbook NICAS Level 2 Certificate (Upon Successful completion of the course) BMC Participation Statement: The BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
Cancelation with more than 30 days' notice, we will charge a £25 cancellation fee. Cancelation with between 7 & 30 days' notice, then a 50% refund will be given. Cancelation with less than 7 days' notice, then no refund will be given. We advise taking out cancellation, curtailment and accident insurance. If RSP cancels a booking for any reason, including illness, you will be given the option of either rescheduling your activity, or receiving a full refund. Some courses require a certain ratio to run, if these ratios are not met then the course will not run, and a full refund will be available. RSP staff will communicate with clients to keep them updated on this matter.
